I wish I could tell you more of Robert’s story, but all I know are the basic facts about my great-uncle. He was the first born and only son of Arthur and Julia Sopha. He died of cholera, leaving a hole in the lives of his parents and his sister who would be born 2 years after his death. The family, recent immigrants from Germany, were unable to afford a headstone — and so his grave in section 84 of Green Lawn Cemtery has remained unmarked to this day.
Thus our project. A little bit of research has shown that it would only take approximately $400 to buy a stone, plus the costs of having it installed. As much as we would love to front this money ourselves, as recent graduates, I’m sure you can imagine the difficulty of doing such a thing. Plus we thought it would be a good project to make our site have an impact.
Our ultimate hope is to continue accepting donations in order to supply other unmarked graves with stones as well. Help us take the first step by donating. If you are uncomfortable donating money over the internet, or if you have any difficulties whatsoever in making a PayPal donation, you may send a confidental e-mail to headstoner@hotmail.com, where we will give you other payment options. You can also support by joining our Facebook cause, if you have an account, and recruiting friends.
Thanks for reading this and considering a donation. It means a lot to my family and us!
