Ross County gets its name from James Ross, a Pennsylvania lawyer and politician. Its county seatis Chillicothe, which was formerly the capital of Ohio. The county is 688.41 square miles with a population around 73,345. Perhaps the area is most famous to locals for the Sugarloaf Mountain outdoor amphitheater and its annual productions of the play Tecumseh! Also famous is the haunted ghost town of Knockemstiff. There are some lovely cemeteries, a few detailed hauntings, and a really wonderful coffee shop in Chillicothe proper called Joy of Java.
