Coming soon: More about our grounds-breaking book, the first ever connoisseurs’ guide to cemeteries and their local coffee shops. Coming eventually to a bookstore near you.
Grounds & Grounds will provide reviews, information, history, and the occasional ghost story about cemeteries all over Ohio’s 88 counties, as well as the best independent coffee shops convenient to them. This coffee-table volume, complete with many beautiful pictures, will also double as a great travelling companion with appendices filled with maps and route suggestions for planning flexible outings from afternoon jaunts to weekend trips and more extended vacations.
Design: The authors have divided Ohio’s 88 counties into four quadrants with Franklin County as the center. Each quadrant is then subdivided by county, with the cemeteries then listed in order of “first to last” on a circular visitation route. (Picture a clover leaf over the state of Ohio. A very jaggedy and crooked clover leaf.) Inserted at appropriate breaks in the boneyard narrative will be descriptions of coffee shops with pictures (taken by permission). Cemeteries of Franklin County will be listed alphabetically. Following this is an exhaustive index that will allow you to quickly locate any cemetery, coffee shop, or county instantly.
The latter portion of the book will contain a series of useful appendices, tailored to a variety of tastes. One will allow readers to pick a coffee shop and find cemeteries near it with helpful route recommendations, another will allow them to start from a cemetery and locate a convenient coffee shop. Another will contain maps and route suggestions for trips ranging from brief jaunts (limited) to trips as long as a reader chooses to make them.
Book Update: After July 2008, approximately twenty cemeteries and four coffee shops in eight counties have been recorded.
Starting out: Six coffee shops and twenty-seven cemeteries in three counties, some in better states of recording than others.
